Day 8: God Lifts Me Up

Updated: Jan 15

Key Verse: "I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me." - Psalm 30:1

Reading: Psalm 30

Devotional:

Have you ever faced a time in your life when you wanted to die, thinking life would be easier if you were not in it, or had to endure what life throws your way?

I went to my doctor for the first time ever, telling her I was facing thoughts of death while dreaming of people dying. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I know I will live in Heaven if and when I die, but the thought of how I and others might die consumed my mind daily.

Anti-depressants were not an option for me, because they made me more depressed and nauseous. I decided then that God was calling me to seek Him. I prayed and read my Bible like never before, met with a Christian counselor who helped me grow in God’s Word, ran every night to relieve stress, ate better, and lost weight. I know my mind and body were strengthened because of God.

Reflecting on this journey, I believe it is only through God that we can become healed from these demonic thoughts. Yes, times are hard. You will weep through the night. Unfortunately, it will never get better because we live in a sinful world.

But there is hope, because JOY comes in the morning. This is why I love reading the Psalms and why this book is so important to share with you all. Every time I encounter a battle, I run, not walk, to the Psalms. They remind me of the goodness of God and how His great name is to be praised. He is the One who can turn my mourning into dancing. Please, my friend, let Him do the same for you.

Apply:

  • Can you recall a specific moment when God lifted you out of deep waters?

  • Write verse 5 on a card and work to remember it.

  • Identify one area where you need the Lord's strength. List a practical step you will take today to seek His help in that area.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your goodness and grace. Thank You for not leaving us where we are, but instead, helping us to grow in our spiritual walk. You are enough, Lord. You are enough!
