Day 9: God Delivers Me

Updated: Jan 15

Key Verse: "But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” my times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me." - Psalm 31:14-15

Reading: Psalm 31

Devotional:

Do you find it hard to trust people? I do. I’m not sure why, because I had very loving parents growing up. I may find it difficult to trust because of situations in which people proved untrustworthy.

My friend, God is nothing like those other people. As God’s children, we need to stop attributing human characteristics to Him. Yes, He came to earth in human form, but He is far from the flesh we abide in daily. He is God.

Let’s use Psalm 31 to familiarize ourselves with God's attributes. God is trustworthy, loving, and a deliverer. He listens, is our rock, and a fortress of defense. God is our great Shepherd, Savior, strength, and Redeemer, who is merciful, lover of our souls, my Savior. He is our protector, good and kind.

When we are in trouble, we can rely on God to be there for us. After all, we are His children. He created you. He loves you. He wants to rescue you from the pit you are in if you will only ask. Let God be your strength in times of weakness and heal your brokenness. Call upon Him and acknowledge that He is your God.

Apply:

  • What words describe God’s attributes?

  • Describe how you relate to David’s feelings in this chapter. Share a specific example if possible.

  • The real enemy in our lives is Satan. What can you ask God to do to make him quiet?

Prayer:

Lord, be this rock you speak of in my life. I believe you are my Chief Cornerstone. I ask that You build up Your walls around me to protect me from any evil that may come my way. You are truly my strength. Show Your mercy upon me and those I love. I trust You, Lord.
